By some measures the US has the highest rate of incarceration in the world. When people talk about the dangers of crime in the US, especially in the large cities, it's interesting that they often don't consider the danger of incarceration as well. Of course, in principle, if one avoids committing crimes then the odds of being incarcerated would surely be lower. One film, The Thin Blue Line make the idea of false imprisonment very real. From one perspective, the backdrop of Dallas County, Texas, in the 70's might seem remote, but as the film rolls on, a picture of American history and culture emerges that is haunting and deeply chilling ...
